Wenngleich diese maßgebenden Perspektiven in Kants geschichtsphilosophischen Schriften zweifellos im Vordergrund stehen, so sollen demgegenüber jedoch vor allem jene latent vorhandenen Anknüpfungspunkte und Ansätze zu einem kritischen Geschichtsdenken bei Kant und das darin leitende "gegenläufige" Vernunftinteresse freigelegt werden. Dabei werden in Kants Denken Bezüge erkennbar, die solche verborgenen geschichtsphilosophischen Aspekte in bemerkenswerter Nähe zu Walter Benjamins berühmtem geschichtsphilosophischen Motiv, "die Geschichte gegen den Strich zu bürsten", erscheinen lassen. Eine andere Akzentuierung gewinnt jenes Diktum Kants freilich im Kontext seiner kritischen Religionsphilosophie. Die Begründung eines über das Anspruchsniveau der Tugendpflichten erweiterten "Standpunktes der Freiheit" (der Idee des "Übersinnlichen in uns") modifiziert zugleich den von Kant beabsichtigten Nachweis, "dass ethical unumgänglich zur faith führt", und erlaubt so eine religionsphilosophische Erweiterung und Differenzierung des Hoffnungshorizontes. Dergestalt gewinnt nicht nur Kants "Weltbegriff der Philosophie" neue Konturen – auch auf Kants Idee einer "authentischen Theodizee" fällt damit noch einmal ein neues Licht – "zwischen skeptischer Hoffnungslosigkeit und dogmatischem Trotz".
